This division provides noxious and nuisance weed monitoring and control as required by the Nebraska Noxious Weed Act and Douglas County Weed Abatement Law. The division provides field inspection services based on the complaints received and to areas that have a known history of noxious weed problems. Random inspections are also conducted throughout the County’s area of responsibility. Complaints of noxious weed problems on public land are inspected and then referred to the proper public agency for control.

The division also does some direct control of weed problems with mowing and pesticide application.  Most mowing and pesticide application is done by private maintenance firms, as coordinated by the Weed Superintendent.

We have cooperative arrangements with the City of Omaha Parks and Recreation Department and City of Omaha Public Works Department for the eradication of thistles at their dam sites and with the Union Pacific Railroad and Burlington Northern Railroad for control of noxious weeds on their properties. The division also works closely with the Douglas County Engineer’s Office on the control of roadside noxious weeds along County right of ways.

We are a proud member of the Lower Platte Weed Management Area (LPWMA). If you have a complaint or questions about "General" weed control efforts inside the City Limits of Omaha, please contact (402) 444-5910 (Omaha Weeds & Litter Dept.)
