Melting Snow: It's Stormwater Too!

The environmental impact of snowmelt is very similar to that of runoff caused by rain events, and in some ways, can be more extreme than rain.

Tips for managing winter stormwater on your property:

*Shovel snow onto surfaces with gently sloping and level landscapes so it can soak into the ground and not flow into a nearby storm drain.

*Apply minimal amounts of ice melt, salt, or sand and remember to sweep up those particles after the snow melts.

Remember, water from rain and snow melt goes into storm drains and then into creeks without getting treated.
