SPRING is here!

There are several springtime lawn and garden activities that Douglas County residents can do that will benefit stormwater quality for your home and community.

*Use clippings or other yard waste as a natural mulch to retain soil moisture and control weeds. This also improves lawn and garden health by encouraging natural nutrient cycling.

*Plant native and/or drought-tolerant grasses, ground covers, shrubs, and trees. once established, they don't need watering as frequently and can usually survive a dry period without much watering.

*Create a rain garden to filter stormwater for better water quality while adding a beautiful landscape addition.

*Choose the right water system: drip irrigation and soaker hoses work well in plant beds, while sprinklers work better on the lawn.
